Filming today: Monday October 22

Today was our first day of filming. We had a three hour lesson in the morning and we headed up to the 4th floor to do some filming in the photography studio.

The studio was small and packed with props from photography class, and once we got the proper lighting on, of which there was a LOT, the room got stifling hot. I made sure to bring in my props like clothing and make-up, so we could create the right look for our artist, and I also had some five inch heels, so all in all by the end of the session I was absolutely dripping make-up with blisters all over my feet, but I think it was worth it. We managed to film about 5 base tracks today, and got a lot of extra footage. We paid very close attention to detail, like lighting, height, angle etc. and the team worked excellently since we all had a job to do and I think everyone did their part great. It was a lot of work but definitely paid off in the end. If we can continue getting about 5 base tracks each time we go filming, I'm sure we can easily have all of our footage, as well as extra content, done by the deadline.

While the filming is fun, I'm also looking forward to getting to edit. We've got a lot of ideas about filters and effects that will be interesting to implement and play around with. The cinematic hadn't previously worked on the blog but today Rebecca helped me get it up so we've been looking through it to make sure we stay on track with our shots, and it works out to about 70 or so shots by the end of it, which is a lot considering the longest shot is a 5 second shot and the shortest is 11th of a second (yes, tricksy but not impossible with Final Cut Pro), but I'm sure we'll get through it with the pace we've been going at today.

We did a little extra footage when we got back to class for our "nailpolish shot", in which nails flash multi colours repeatedly, which appears in the first "breakdown" of the song, where the tempo speeds up into the first chorus. Billie brought in 7 different colours of nailpolish, and since we all agreed her nails were in the best condition, we used her hand to do the shot. The pictures are up in the previous blog.

All in all I think it was a highly successful day and at these rate we're on our way to 40/40!
