Laura Mulvey's Idea's on Representation.

Laura Mulvey's theory is that within music video's they dismember parts of the woman's body to try and encourage men to watch the video and therefore promote the song. This is called "The male gaze". After finding tonnes of videos which objectify women i decided to try and find a video of which does this to a man. I did not find any, i did think maybe the famous song "It's raining men" by Geri Haliwell would definately have dismemebered parts of a man, but i was suprised to discover instead of doing this to fit the song, she decided to focus "the male gaze" on herself:

"The Male Gaze"

The male gaze is often used in Hip hop and heavy metal music videos. This is where the body of a women gets sectioned off so that the camera focuses only on a sexual part of her. This attracts a larger audience as men who would not usually listen to this music would find the video entertaining and end up liking the song. Artists such as Beyonce and Madonn use this a lot. here a few pictures to show how it is done in music videos.

Madonna (Hung Up)

Also, songs that are written specifically for a film, show images or clips from the films inside the video. For example, Celine dion My heart will go on!
