Carol Vernallis who studies editing and camera work in music videos and picked up on features that some music videos use. Such as very obvious editing e.g. wipes and special effects or that the camera may move in time with the music. She has also said that edits in a music videe are much frequently than in a film. I have analysed some music videos and also picked up on the some of the things she has said...
One video that I analysed was The Saturdays - All fired up..

In the video they often dance in way which the camera follows them in time with the music. Another point that Vernallis made was that Jump cuts were often used. in the same video I found countless number of jumcuts. this is an example of one. They go from one outfit to another. One of the most obvious edits made in the video (The Saturdays - All fired up) Was the Slow motion of the water. |
