Blogging task on Laura Mulvey
Men are seen as active whereas females are seen as passive. Women are objects of sexualisation to please the men. Knowing that they are objects of sexualisation women carry on or “passively” give the men what they want.
In many music videos, women seem to be sexualised from the way that they dress, do their hair and make up but also the camera. The camera has a certain way that it focuses on the females assets. This represents womens as objects of the male desire.
Many genres exploit women in this sexualised manner, for eg R&B and also female groups.
I think the artist Pink challenges the conventional way a female looks in a video, this is illustrated through the way in which she dresses in her videos, not exposed in a sexual way but also her lyrics of her song “Stupid Girls” which seems to attack the “stereotypical” girl who only cares about fitting the “norm” and being socially accepted.
I believe Mulveys opinion is very real in todays society, artists such as Rihanna and Beyonce are prime examples of women who use their body in order to gain attention and promote their music.

Kanye West: All of the lights ft Rihanna
In this video Kayne West is shown fully clothed and as a whole, whereas Rihanna is dressed in straps revealing her chest which is also dismembered by the camera. Which supports Mulvey’s theory on how women are portrayed and the differentiation on how the men are portrayed.

Glasses Malone- That Good
The lyrics of this song clearly talk about how they want the women to be involved with them through sexual intercourse, knowing this is probably the only reason why the men are talking to the women, we still see women showing off their body in order to get the attention of the men. This supports Mulvey’s theory as she says “ The determining male gaze projects its fantasy onto the female figure which is styled accordingly”.
