Signing off :(

So here is the last blog! Its been quite stresful getting everything done! I'm pleased that i get to rest but im also happy that i took media because the work that we ended up producing was actually really fun and the final product for me was quite impressive!

Question 4: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

To get audience feed back, i emailed some images from the video to some friends and family and asked for a response.

Here is an email i sent out asking if they could send me some feedback.
This is what i got
from my audience feedback i learnt that we either not done the green screen, or spent more time editing for hte green screen to work. I learnt that this is the part that let the video down a bit.
I think with a bit more time we could have made it a lot better.

I also learnt from my audience feedback that it was mostly men who responded to me about it, this leads me to believe that we made it suitably for the target audience.

we also filming someone in our class, i do not have the video but i think it is up on the blog somewhere.

DigiPak Mock up feedback

After presenting my idea for the Digipak, i got a lot of feedback which has helped me advance and create a better cover.

My original idea had two pictures. One on the front which is the one i have kept, but also one at the back. The reason i chose to put a photo on the back was as the picture fitted perfectly  The artist was looking straight to where the writing for the song titles would be.
After presenting this though, i decided to change the back cover as it was not conventional to have a picture on the back. What would look better is carrying the same designed pattern on the front through to the back.
This creates a more complete look for the Digipak.

Mock up of Advert and Digipak!!!

I know they are backwards but it gives you a rough idea of how i plan to create these. The design on the Digipak, i have decided to change the design as for the genre it is just too girly. Instead i am going with a rough "pencil" like design in the same colour red.

Advert Research

For my advert research, i looked into a few well known artist's as there aren't any Dubstep artists who actually bring out albums.
This is one poster i found. I liked this as it is incredibly simple but also effective. The colour scheme works really well and everything is well laid out.

Some Dubstep adverts i found looked like this:

As you can see though, this is not an album advert. I could not actually find an advert for a dubstep album coming out. Whenever however i do find an advert like this, it does not promote the artist. as a result of this, i have decided to mix the two, so that it has elements of a dubstep album but also with a picture of Ava Manhattan to promote her.

I will post a picture of my advert mock up soon

Colour

C O L O U R!!!!!!!

So today we had to make all the group decisions, which meant we had to come up with the colour scheme for the front of our Digipak.

First we wanted to definitely have Black. This is because it features a lot in our film and it is also a classic.

So here are some options we were considering:

BLACK    YELLOW    BLUE

BLACK    RED           BLUE

BLACK    RED           VIOLET

BLACK    VIOLET      PINK

BLACK    GREEN       YELLOW

BLACK    GREEN        WHITE

BLACK    BLUE          WHITE

BLACK    RED          WHITE

The bottom colour scheme is what we ended up choosing. This is because they work the best together and are striking. We wanted to try and get across our ongoing theme of London Nightlife, but we decided if we were to still go with that here it would be incredibly hard to represent in only three colours. So we chose red, white and black. All very classic colours and they work well together.

Pictures

Here are some of my favourite shots from our photo shoot for the Digipak. There were tonnes more. but these were my favourite. You can see the pictures i chose for my Digipak in my other post.

Album Names (ideas)

Round

Lights

Need-You

Love

B r i g h t

Mysterious

I n f i n i t y

L i f e

Here are a few names we came up with for our album name. We made a list and then went through them and tried relating them to our vide. The one we thought that connected the most was            "I N F I N I T Y" as the word is used in our song and also reflects the imagery in our video at the same time.

MOCK DIGIPAK'S!!!!!

In lesson today, we created a mock up of our idea's for the Digipak. I used ca close up for the front cover as we want to clearly show the artists face. This will help them gain a "name" for themselves. This was the fan base will know what the artist looks like.
On top of the pictures i wanted a design that was non-diegetic, this was to represent the genre which is dubstep. It takes away "natural feel" that we want to steer clear from.

These mocks were in black and white, but our three colours that we have chosen for our digipak is Red, Black and white. I will post a blog on how we decided this later as it was a long process.

Analysis of three Digipacks

Dub step Genre
This is "Touch Yello" Digipack. I think this is very effective, but it seems to be one of the only ones to actually show the artist so it is very rare. Although this is visually pleasing, it does not however fully show the artist. It does not have close up's either. Instead it uses Mid-shots to show the artist playing an instrument.

I could not find the full digipak online for this artist but i thought it fitted the genre perfectly. The actual photo shows a young man who fits the profile we made for our target audience. The bright colour Yellow is centred and used well to attract attention, clearly showing the artists name with his face.
The only thing i would change about this cover, is the mid shot yet again. As it is a debut album, they need to be using closeups to show the artist a lot more clearly.

Whilst researching the dubstep genre for digipak's, i came across this picture which i thought would really suit our video. The night life is represented very well, that along with a close up of the face and the artists name would look very effective.
I also love the back of the digipak as it is very visually intriguing.

non-stop editing

Me and Billie spent our lunch time editing. We managed to do quite a lot and add in effects which was really fun. We got to see different types of edits to put on and effects such as mirroring and tiling.

Editing media studeis#1 from Selina Khatun

I've notice that Slideshare has slightly merged my paragraphs and pictures together, but here is what I wrote:

For the first two picturesWhen adding in effects it is very important to remember each number of every specific : Brightness, Threshold, contrast and etc. The main effects we used were ‘BLOOM’ and ‘DAZZLE’. These had specific numbers to them, so we had to make sure we did them all the same and correctly. It was quite a fiddly task and maybe took longer than expected but it was worth the outcome for the video!

The second set of picturesSome other effects that we added to the Music video was Mirroring and tiling. The tiling effect looks really effective and although in our storyboard we didn’t initially have the idea , when we tried it out it look really well! So we knew we had to keep it. The same goes for he Mirroring , we have used it in quite a few places but not too much, we don’t want to over do it. But our genre being Dub-step I think the combo goes nicely.

Intertexiuality

This is the shot that we decided on using intertexuality on. We did end up getting a really good shot of a cigarette burning out, the only problem we discovered was we could not speed it up fast enough. The highest it would go up to 1000%, if we went any higher, the computer froze so we decided to go halfway in and start there.

Now obviously, our editing on the cigarette is not going to be as good as this! But we do hope to add a good effect and make it fit in with our video.

(will add screenshot of our cigarette)

All day edits!

Today was extremely tiring, as we were making up for lost time, and editing our video. We remained editing from class at 9am, all the way until 4:30, without even a single break, not even for lunch!

While today was very tiring, it was also very productive. One thing that I learned about was the importance of Rendering. Every single edit that was made required rending afterwards. This picture (left) shows a clip getting rendered. It was quite annoying to begin with, because we kept forgetting to render the footage and so it wouldn't show up, but now we've done it so much that it's become a habit!!

Another useful thing that I learned today was about using the Chroma Keyer. The Chroma Keyer is used to remove the green screen, and input the desired footage behind the artist. This is done by selecting the colour of the screen with the "dropper" icon, then changing the colour amounts on the line, as well as sliding the "thin edges" and "soften edges" tabs etc. around. The main problem that was encountered was when there was a shadow, it often blended onto the skin or clothing, and so parts of the actual artist were removed with the screen. I got around this by tweaking  all the tabs, until as much green as possible had disappeared, without losing  parts of the artist as well.
(Above) The artist was originally laying in front of the green screen, however the footage shown behind is the super imposed footage. There is a slight part of the elbow that was taken out, because of the green screen reflecting onto the artist's skin, and thus getting removed with the Chroma Keyer.

Another thing I learned today was how to apply effects. It's not rocket science, but getting it to look good isn't easy, either. The picture above shows some effects we'd added to a shot. We enhanced the lighting, and used the "Glow" technique: Bloom. We then tweaked the effect to make the shot look as we wanted. However, we used effects on a lot of shots, and wanted to use the same effects on the same footage, but that appeared in different parts of the video, so in order to remember all the levels of each shot, we took pictures, as seen below. The effects really made a huge difference to the quality and entertainment of our footage, taking it from normal, student footage, and turning it into something that would be seen in a professional music video. Sometimes, the effects were used to even get a better marking for the specific footage. For example, the framing on one of our base tracks is slightly off, so we used an effect to make the background glow, thus making it hard to recognize the "top" and "bottom" of the frame, causing the framing error to become unnoticeable  It is in ways like this which we are manipulating our video, and making it into high quality work.

We still have a lot to do, however, so we'll be editing right up until our deadline (finish before then, of course, just tweaking ;) )

Editing Update

Today was the most editing we have done. Me and Jayne have so far done 5.5 hours so far and counting! We are now basically going through and adding in any filters and working on the greenscreen. It is taking a while but i am sure we will get a lot done today. We also have scheduled to work through every lunchtime this week between us. So hopefully this will whip the editing into shape!

Rough Cut!

Here is our rough cut for our media video. We did not get to the end of the video in the rough cut, however the remained of the video is two choruses, which simply includes repeating footage from the previous choruses. The remainder of our editing is extra footage, and effects. We now plan to put in all of the effects throughout the video, impose the green screen and just generally "clean it up". After putting in the edits, they messed up our artists face, for EG it had put stars on our artists nose. So they teachers feedback was to tone these effects so they don't make the artist look weird!
