Goodbye.

This is my last blog and I won't lie and say I'll miss it. It's been stressful keeping up with the blogs!!!! and I wouldn't want to do it again. However I've lovedddd studying media! I think its such an enjoyable subject and I had great fun making a thriller and a music video!

Goodbye blogger.

FINAL VLOG

Question four: what have you learned from your audience feedback?

At the cinema's the audience seem to have responded to our video quite well as it received a nice round of applause. However I think the audience were quite baffled in a sense that they wasn't familiar with the song and possibly the genre as its not well known like songs of the pop genre! So they possibly didn't link the song or understand how the video related to the song. Compared to the other music videos with well known songs that got better responses. I think it could possibly been our song choice that they didn't like but they seemed to have enjoyed the video overall!

To get further information on what people thought of our video I put a link on my facebook along with a link of survey monkey where I created a survey for them to answer about how they liked it.

From my first response, they mentioned about the effects. Whilst editing we came across issues when we added too many effects and our artist would end up having stars on her face or being blurred out, we did try to fix this and changed it so it didn't look so obvious. However the audience still picked up on this so in the future I think when adding effects we should be careful that we don't get carried away with it. Also the fact that they said they didn't expect to see a girl singing in the video makes me think that maybe there are conventions of a dubstep video and that people would much prefer not to have an artist in the video. In the future if I ever make a music video and the genres dubstep I shall bear that in mind!!

My second respondent seemed to have enjoyed it also. But this respondent feels like anything can be used in a dubstep video, which I believe to be true, you can add a load of things that range from cigarettes to fireworks and still make it look good. I learned from both the responses that people make different opinions and you can't please everyone. As we had to use an artist because that was part of our work, if I was to do another dubstep video I wouldn't use an artist as I believe dubstep is more about the music! I think there are different expectations for different genres, so when you do a specific genre its important to check what is expected of that particular genre.

Survey monkey also allowed to convert my results in to quantitative data. And my two respondents chose yes to enjoy my video. YAY!

I emailed my friends my advert and digipak and asked for feedback on what they liked and what could be improved upon. One responded and said that my products were a little plain, I have to agree that my products are plain and I kept it quite simple and if I had time to add more I would have added an artistic element such as the pattern I was talking about in my mock up. Especially looking at other dubstep products they have quite amazing patterns on them. However she did say the use of the colour red stands out so that's a good thing!

Question 3: how did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Where I am so far

This is the inside of my digipack. I think I'm finished, but before Thursdays lesson, I'm going to think about anything else I can add, although there isn't any conventions for the inside it looks rather plain.

This is the outside of my digipack, I'm finished with this and I think it looks quite good. On Thursday I'm going to finish my advertisement and I'm done.

What I've done so far

This is what I've done so far on photoshop, I still don't have the patterns I want because there's no room so I'll try and fit it in. Its looking quite good so far. But I think I'm going to have my writing in black instead of white because my background is white!

Advertisement feedback

The feedback I got for my advertisement is that I need to put a small picture of my album cover on the advertisement so people know what to look for in the shops. Also I need to implement features of my album cover on my advertisement so I'm going to use the same pattern on the advertisement.

Digipak mock up feedback

This is the front of my digipak. The feedback I got back was that I have to add more songs to my track list as there's about 11 songs on a conventional album.

This is the inside, the writing I want all over my CD has to be in the same font as my track list; birth of a hero.

Photoshop patterns

Trying to create a pattern on photoshop is proving difficult and it isn't looking the way in which I wanted, so I have to keep on experimenting with it to try and create the pattern I want .

Fonts, colours layout and design ideas.

I've chosen to use only two colours.

Red- because it matches with my artists hair

White  because it looks good with the red

The font we've chosen is birth of a hero.

On my advertisement I'm going to put my artists name diagonally because I think it looks better then having it all straight.

All my information will be at the bottom and not on her face.

Because my genre is dubstep I'm going to add a pattern at the back which will be in red.

Inside of my digipak

On the inside of my digipak, I'm going to put a different picture of my artist inside. And on my CD I'd like to put lyrics of the song all over it. I'm going to use the same font; birth of a hero, in white. My CD Will have an outline colour of red.

Advertisement research

Researching magazine adverts I found these 3. The first thing I spotted was that Ellie Golding's album name is lights which was what we were thinking of naming ours, so we'd have to think of another name. All three have large pictures of the artist with the name of their albums. The pictures are in fact the picture on their album so it will be easy to spot in the shops. It also has dates of the release of the album.

10th December 2012

In today's lesson we started our digipak mock up! It became apparent that it's going to be a little difficult. Because our genre is dubstep I want to put a pattern on the entire digipak, but I need to make it by myself on photoshop!!!! That's going to take a bit of practise because I've never done it before. As a group we chose a font for the lyrics; birth of a hero. All my writing will be in  white and the patterns will be red. As a group we also chose the colours black white and red, so this is how I will implement it.

Thursdays lesson!

We looked through previous work by students and when I've taken pictures of it I'll upload it.

We looked at Poppy Power, Sasha and Mia Knight. In all three we looked at strengths and weaknesses of both their digipaks and advertisements.

Poppy Power

Strengths of digipak

- The use of colours was effective as it linked back to their video.
- They used a good font which can be easily read
- Also it showed they have good IT skills

Weaknesses

- There wasn't many weaknesses the only one we could see was that maybe the pictures were a little dark.

Strengths of advertisement

-The use of reviews made it look professional

Weaknesses

- The font should have been the same one use on the digipak.

Sasha

Strengths of digipak

-Good photography
-Good use of colours
-Font is placed well

Weaknesses

-They possibly could have used more copyright details
-Used numbers beside the song titles it would have just tied it together and made it look better.

Strengths of advertisement

-They used a different picture to the digipak
- Carried on the same theme

Weaknesses

-HMV was badly placed

Mia Knight

Strengths of digipak

- Good photo used
- Good colours

Weaknesses

- Barcode should have been placed at the bottom rather than at the top.

Why are CD covers still used?

One thing I forgot to mention was that the importance of ancillary products to the industry is that they will end up making profit!!!
